The situation was further complicated by the fact that the only viable location for the Wallbed was in an alcove to the left of the bay window, which was just wide enough to take a 4ft. wide Wallbed, but the stairs leading up to the flat were so narrow and curved, that even a 4ft. Wallbed would not fit up them!
Our solution was to produce a 4ft. 'Wiskaway' Victor 'Vertical' De Luxe Wallbed in two special 2ft. wide halves, to fit up the narrow stairs. These were subsequently joined together on site to make a 4ft. wide double bed (see 4 and 6 above).
The result was a relatively spacious flat (see 2 above), once the Wallbed had been folded away, which was not only easy to rent out, but additionally provided a higher return.
The heavy-duty, all-steel construction of the 'Wiskaway' Victor 'Vertical' De Luxe and its finger-light counterbalancing system, make it an ideal choice for use in rented accommodation.
Illustrated here is a very small studio flat above The King & Keys Pub in Fleet Street. The pub chain in question had decided to turn the staff accommodation on the upper floors of the pub into self-contained flats to be rented out.
This particular flat on the 2nd floor was so small that the double divan bed originally provided literally took up half the flat (see 1 above) and made it difficult to rent out, despite its prime location. The solution was a 'Wiskaway' Wallbed.
